Business preparing for ‘special’ Halloween parade

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For the fourth year in a row, 101 Mobility is bringing Halloween to special needs students by creating unique costumes.

Each year, the company partners with Ms. Bishop’s special needs class at Codington Elementary School to create one-of-a-kind costumes that are custom designed for the students’ wheelchairs and adaptive strollers.

101 Mobility’s Creative Design Supervisor, Tammy Harrell, said it takes coordination between the company and the teacher to pull off the costumes.

“We basically went to the classroom, talked to Ms. Bishop and she got an idea of what the children wanted to dress up as for Halloween, so it was their idea not ours,” said Harrell.

Once the costumes are designed, Ms. Bishop’s eight students will hold a Halloween parade where they can display their costumes for the entire school. Harrell said the event makes all the planning and designing worth it.

“Everybody’s helping, everybody’s cheering, everybody’s watching,” said Harrell. “It’s a special day for these children, and it’s just their day.”

This year’s parade will be held next Thursday, October 29.
