By the numbers: Lifeguards report jellyfish stings along area beaches

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Summers at the beach in the Cape Fear area means jellyfish are popping up, bringing the potential to get stung by a jellyfish.

JD Lanier with Kure Beach Ocean Rescue says they’ve seen 30 to 40 cases reported to lifeguards, which is lower than previous summers. Last summer, Kure Beach had about 60 cases.

In Wrightsville Beach, Jeremy Owens with ocean rescue says they’ve had an abnormally high amount of stings over the past two weeks with possibly more than 100 in the season.
