BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — If you’re looking for a good book to read ahead of Halloween, a local author has two great options.

Barbara Dullaghan grew up in Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown, New York. She now lives in Brunswick County.

“My books are really a love letter to my hometown,” Dullaghan said. “It was just wonderful growing up there. There’s so much history. There’s so much mystery, and being on the river it’s lovely.”

Dullaghan has written two books for adults. The first book in the series is called “Secrets in the Hollow.”

“My first book ‘Secrets in the Hollow’ is about a woman who returns back to her hometown after her parents die, but she has lots of secrets from growing up. So the book’s themes are secrets and guilt and redemption hopefully in the end,” Dullaghan said.

“Mystery in the Hollow” is a stand-alone, second book in the series.

“The second book has her best friend who is a detective, female detective in the town,” Dullaghan explained. “It takes place at Sunnyside which is Washington Irving’s home and museum on the Hudson. There’s a murder at Sunnyside, and there’s a robbery of some very priceless documents.”

Barbara Dullaghan has two upcoming events.

She’ll be signing books at Sandalwood Shoppes at Waterford Plaza in Leland on Saturday, October 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dullaghan will also be featured at an author’s night on Thursday, October 29 at Pomegranate Books in Wilmington. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
