Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity marks 9/11 with day of service
CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity honored service members Friday with its second annual 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance.
The event was held in the organization’s Haven Place neighborhood in Castle Hayne.
Volunteers, many of them veterans, spent the day helping build a home as part of Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build initiative.
The program brings volunteers together to support housing projects involving veterans and military families.
Shelby Wilson, a spokesperson for Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, said the day of service is meant to honor those who gave their lives in service to their communities.
The event was held on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
