Car found in flames on Wilmington street sparks fire investigation

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A car that was found engulfed flames in the early morning hours Wednesday is left completely destroyed, sparking an investigation into how the fire started.

Wilmington fire crews say just after 5 a.m., a man who was house sitting in the 200 block of S. 13th Street heard his car alarm sounding outside.

That’s when they say the man discovered that his car was completely engulfed, with flames coming from inside. Fire crews say no one was hurt in the fire, and that the car’s owner does not know how the blaze started.

Wilmington Police responded to the call, along with fire crews. They say the car, which is completely destroyed, was towed to a wrecker service yard, so firefighters can investigate in the daylight.
