Carbon monoxide detected at Leland Burger King; no injuries reported

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Emergency crews responded to a Burger King in Leland early Monday morning after employees reported an unusual odor and haze inside the restaurant.

According to Leland Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Joseph Stavish, the call came in shortly after 1 a.m. at the Burger King located on New Pointe Boulevard. Multiple units responded to the scene, including a ladder truck.

Stavish said firefighters discovered elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside the building during their investigation. He said a component on a piece of equipment inside the restaurant had burned up.

Handheld fire extinguishers were used to prevent additional damage, according to Stavish.

However, Stavish said it has not been determined whether the damaged component was the exact cause of the incident.

No injuries were reported.

A district manager for Burger King declined to comment on the incident.
