CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Residents may notice smoke and visible flames Monday evening as the Carolina Beach Fire Department conducts a live structure fire training exercise.

The training will take place Monday, June 1, at 809 Monroe Ave. Fire department personnel will begin setting up for the exercise at 1 p.m., with live fire drills scheduled to begin no earlier than 6 p.m.

During the training, firefighters will ignite and extinguish fires in different rooms of the structure in a controlled environment. The exercise is designed to provide firefighters with hands-on experience operating in a variety of roles during a structure fire response.

Officials said flames may be visible from windows and doors, and smoke will be emitted from the building throughout the training exercise.

The fire department emphasized that the operation is planned and closely controlled to provide realistic emergency response training.

Residents are encouraged to avoid the area if possible, as road closures are expected during the exercise.

The department says live fire training is an important part of firefighter preparedness, allowing crews to practice fire suppression techniques and coordinated emergency response in real-world conditions.
