VIDEO: Heavy rain causes flash flooding in Carolina Beach

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Most of the region has picked up a lot of rain over the past week. Storms have been producing heavy rain, which could lead to flash flooding, and dangerous lightning.

One storm caused flooding on South Lake Park Boulevard, making it almost impassable for drivers, Thursday evening in Carolina Beach.

Nikki Weimer captured a video of cars slowly passing through the deep water near Fat Pelican around 4:45 p.m.

Other residents near the Carolina Beach Lake took to social media to post photos after they saw significant flooding in their yards as well.

Mayor Joe Benson posted on Facebook the reason behind that flooding after a resident asked why the water wasn’t draining.

Benson said multiples lightning strikes had knocked out power to the lift station on Texas Avenue. It has since been resolved.

According to the National Weather Service, Carolina Beach has seen between four to five inches of rain so far this week. ILM has reported rain 10 out of the last 11 days.

Unfortunately, the unsettled weather pattern will continue through the next several days. Click here for the WWAY StormTrack 3 forecast.
