CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Island Arts Council is accepting entries for its inaugural Gingerbread Beach House Competition, which will bring holiday-themed creations to Carolina Beach in December.

The competition and public display are scheduled for Dec. 10-12 at the Proximity Clubhouse, 904 N. Lake Park Blvd.

Participants are being asked to create gingerbread interpretations of beach houses. Entries will be divided into three categories: youth ages 11 to 19, adults ages 20 and older, and professional or business entries.

Registration is free and closes Nov. 18. Organizers are limiting the competition to 25 entries in each category.

Competition rules require the houses to be made from edible materials, and pre-made gingerbread house kits are not allowed.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in each category.

During the public display, visitors will be able to vote for their favorite entries. Professional and business entries are also expected to be offered through a silent auction benefiting island charities.

The Island Arts Council says a community reception is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12. The organization’s release lists the reception from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with winners expected to be announced afterward.

The competition is free for both participants and visitors.
