Carolina Beach ocean rescue team brings home regional championship title

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue has earned top honors at the 2026 South Atlantic Lifesaving Association (SALA) Championships, taking first place in Division B during the regional competition held in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
The team secured the championship title by delivering strong performances across multiple events designed to test ocean rescue skills, technical abilities, safety knowledge, physical strength, and endurance. Officials said the team’s success was driven by the exceptional teamwork and preparation demonstrated throughout the competition.
The SALA Championships bring together ocean rescue teams from across the southeastern United States for a series of challenging events that showcase the specialized skills required of professional lifeguards and ocean safety personnel.
“Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue is grateful for the continued encouragement and support from the community,” the department said in a press release.
The Division B victory highlights the dedication and training of Carolina Beach’s ocean rescue team as they continue their commitment to protecting residents and visitors along the coast.
