Carolina Beach tries again for Boardwalk extension

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Carolina Beach is trying again to get approval to extend the Boardwalk.

The town says earlier this month is resubmitted a variance request to the Division of Coastal Management to extend the Carolina Beach Boardwalk from Harper Avenue to the Pelican Lane Public Beach Access. The town says the 875-foot extension will provide several new beach accesses, improved pedestrian circulation and be fully handicapped accessible.

The Coastal Resource Commission is expected to consider the request at its meeting Nov. 17 and 18 in Atlantic Beach.

In October 2014 the town withdrew its variance request because it believed the CRC was about to deny it, as it had a previous request in February 2014.

Some property owners along the proposed extension have also objected to the project.
