Castle Hayne man accused of insurance fraud

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – A Castle Hayne man is charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense after a wreck last month.

Department of Insurance investigators say Scottie Sharay Porter, 41, lied about the circumstances surrounding an accident that happened November 10, in order to change his insurance company’s coverage.

According to the Wilmington police report, Porter was driving west on Marstellar Street when he lost control of his vehicle, struck a curb, and spun on the sidewalk/curb before coming to a stop. The front, passenger side and rear of the vehicle was damaged.

Investigators say Porter denied his vehicle was damaged on an application after the accident happened.

Porter was arrested Monday and released on $10,000 bond.
