CFCC observes moment of silence for Oregon shooting victims

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — CFCC held a moment of silence this afternoon to honor the victims of last week’s shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon. Nine people were killed when a gunman entered the campus.

CFCC students,  employees and members of the public participated in the moment of silence. Student Colin Daugherty says he participated in the event with hopes of making people more aware of gun violence around the country.

“We’ve had hundreds of school shootings that haven’t even made the front page and they really need to be brought to the front page, and they need to be at the focal point of the issues that our government is dealing with.”

The moment of silence was part of a nationwide effort coordinated by the American Association of Community Colleges.
