CFCC ranks No. 1 in North Carolina for full-time enrollment growth

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College is reporting record enrollment growth, outpacing both state and national trends as more students seek affordable, career-focused education.

According to newly released data from the North Carolina Community College System dashboard, CFCC ranked No. 1 in the state for full-time enrollment growth from the 2025-26 academic year.

CFCC saw an 18% increase in full-time enrollment hours during that period, nearly three times the average 6% growth reported across North Carolina’s community colleges.

Total enrollment at CFCC also increased by more than 3,400 students, representing overall growth of more than 14%. The college said total student attendance has now surpassed 27,000.

“Today’s students are looking for education that leads directly to opportunity,” CFCC President Jim Morton said. “At Cape Fear Community College, we’re delivering affordable, high-quality training that equips people with the skills employers need today. That’s why our graduates are succeeding, and why we’re outperforming state averages.”

CFCC’s one-year enrollment growth was also nearly five times the national community college average of roughly 3%, according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.

College officials attribute the growth to demand for career-focused programs, affordable education and pathways that connect students with workforce opportunities.

CFCC is also expanding its campus facilities to accommodate local demand.

The college said the enrollment gains reflect the growing demand for accessible higher education and workforce training in Southeastern North Carolina.
