WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College students and faculty are preparing to bring a 1920s drama to the stage later this month.

CFCC’s Commercial, Fine, and Performing Arts Department will present “Machinal,” a play by Sophie Treadwell, during six performances in November.

The production will run November 12-14 and November 19-21, with performances beginning at 7 p.m. each night at the Studio Theatre, located behind the Wilson Center on Hanover Street in Wilmington.

“Machinal” follows a young woman struggling with societal expectations and limited personal freedom as she navigates her career, marriage, family life and motherhood.

Inspired by the murder trial of Ruth Snyder, the expressionist drama explores themes of oppression, conformity and the pressures of industrial society.

Tickets cost $15 for the general public, $12 for CFCC faculty and staff, and $6 for students and children.

Tickets are available through the Wilson Center’s ticketing website or by contacting the box office.
