Charges upped in June crash after passenger dies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police have upgraded the charges against a driver involved in an alleged drunk driving crash earlier this year after one of his passengers died.

Mohammed Daifallah, 26, of Wilmington is now charged with felony DWI death by motor vehicle after Alexander Wakeen, 21, of Wilmington died Thursday.

Wakeen died as a result of the injuries he suffered in a traffic crash June 2. Investigators say early that morning Daifallah was driving a 2002 Saab through the intersection of Oleander Drive and Greenville Loop Road, when he drove off the road. The car rolled over several times ejecting and injuring all of the passengers.
