Charlotte couple hurt in Boston explosions
CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — A Charlotte couple is recovering from serious injuries when two bombs exploded near the finish line at the Boston Marathon.
Thirty-one-year-old Nicole Gross’s leg was shattered in the explosion. Her husband, Michael Gross, suffered serious burns.
Michael’s brother, Brian Gross, said Tuesday the couple was in Boston to cheer on Nicole’s mother who was in the race.
The couple was near the finish line waiting for her to complete the 26.2-mile course when the bombs exploded.
Nicole’s mother, Carol Downing, was not hurt. But Nicole’s sister, Erica Brannock of Maryland, sustained serious injuries. Brian says one of Erica’s legs has been amputated.
The three family members are still in Boston hospitals.
Brian says his brother is a general manager at the Charlotte Athletic Club, where Nicole is a personal trainer.
