Chris Phillips says goodbye as he leaves for love
Thanks everybody. It has been a time of great new beginnings for me here. From starting in weather back in 2005 to my move to the anchor desk. I had a chance to meet so many people covering weather and news.
Wilmington has been a wonderful home and I will miss many people here, in Southport, Carolina and Kure Beaches.
TV is a mobile business, like a sports team many people come and go under the station banner. WWAY will continue to grow through change and challenges and will endure as a place where many will begin a career in TV and some will remain long enough to become familiar.
I will miss you all.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A familiar face is leaving us soon in the name of romance.
Chris Phillips, our co-anchor and former chief meteorologist, is moving to the Columbia, SC, area to be closer to his fiancee Roberta. They plan to marry in 2014.
Chris is one of the most talented on-air people I’ve ever worked with. He can talk about anything for as long as you need him to during a newscast. Plus he’s incredibly witty to boot.
I know I will be joined by thousands of people in Southeastern North Carolina who will be sad to see him go and will miss his charm and talent. It was a great opportunity for this television station to be able to bring Chris back to anchor in 2010.
Chris’s last day on-air will be the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Chris – good luck, thank you for all that you did for WWAY, and we wish you and Roberta nothing but the best together!
