City, lawmakers talk film, water quality, affordable housing at legislative breakfast
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council and lawmakers met Friday morning for the annual legislative breakfast.
The meeting focused on several factors relevant in creating and maintaining a positive quality of life in Wilmington. Topics of discussion included the future of the area’s film industry, affordable housing and crime.
Representatives also talked further measures for keeping air quality and drinking water safe from potentially dangerous chemicals.
Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo says one of the biggest issues that needs to be addressed is making repairs to roads across the Port City.
“We were able to obtain a lot of money for five interchange improvements that are going to happen in the City of Wilmington, but it’s going to take time to put those into place,” Saffo said. “We’re going to need some additional funding, in years to come and I feel that we’ll get a lot more funding as the region grows based on the congestion numbers that we see here in the City of Wilmington.”
Saffo says traffic and congestion is a problem facing not only New Hanover County but also both Pender and Brunswick counties.
