City of Wilmington invites community to showcase creativity in LEGO building competition

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington residents of all ages are invited to put their creativity on display this summer as the city launches its Building Memories LEGO® Building Competition ahead of the upcoming Brick Convention.
The competition encourages participants to create an original LEGO® model inspired by a place, landmark, event or memory that makes Wilmington special to them.
City officials say the contest is designed to celebrate the community’s creativity while highlighting the people, places and experiences that make Wilmington unique.
Builders can draw inspiration from iconic locations like the Riverwalk, Greenfield Lake or city parks, as well as local traditions, concerts, fireworks, businesses, neighborhoods or personal memories.
The competition is open to individuals, families, businesses, schools, homeschool groups, Scout troops, youth organizations, nonprofits and community groups.
Competition Guidelines
Participants must build an original creation using LEGO® bricks or compatible building blocks. Commercial LEGO® sets are not eligible.
Entries must include:
- The builder’s name
- A title for the creation
- A description of up to 100 words explaining the inspiration behind the design
Models must fit within a 4-foot-by-4-foot footprint, be sturdy enough for transport and display, and remain family-friendly.
By entering, participants agree to allow the City of Wilmington to photograph and use images of their creations for promotional purposes.
Important Dates
Completed entries must be dropped off at Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St., by Aug. 14.
All qualifying entries will be displayed from Aug. 18 through Aug. 31, giving the public an opportunity to view the creations and vote for their favorites. In-person voting will be available during the exhibition, and an online voting option will also be offered for those unable to visit.
The winner will be announced on Sept. 1, with all entries available for pickup by Sept. 4.
Winning Prize
The winning builder or team will receive tickets to the Wilmington Brick Convention and be recognized through the City of Wilmington’s communications channels.
City officials say the competition is open to experienced builders and first-time creators alike, encouraging participants to share what makes Wilmington feel like home—one brick at a time.
