City of Wilmington launches LEGO building competition ahead of Brick Convention

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington is inviting residents of all ages to showcase their creativity by building LEGO® creations inspired by the places, landmarks and memories that make the Port City special.

The Building Memories LEGO® Competition is being held ahead of the upcoming Brick Convention at the Wilmington Convention Center. The convention is scheduled for September 12-13, 2026.

Participants are encouraged to create an original model representing a favorite Wilmington landmark, park, community event, business or personal memory using LEGO® bricks or compatible building blocks.

The competition is open to individuals, families, schools, businesses, nonprofits and community organizations.

According to the city, entries must be original, family-friendly and fit within a maximum footprint of 4 feet by 4 feet. Commercial pre-built LEGO sets are not eligible. Each submission must include the builder’s name, a title and a brief description of the creation.

Entries must be dropped off at Skyline Center/City Hall, located at 929 N. Front St., by Aug. 14.

All qualifying builds will be displayed from Aug. 18 through Aug. 31, when members of the public can vote for their favorite creation in person or online.

The winner will be announced on Sept. 1 and will receive tickets to the Wilmington Brick Convention.

The city says all entries must be picked up by Sept. 4.
