City of Wilmington says more than 30 stormwater covers have disappeared this month
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington is asking people to stop stealing metal covers used to access the city’s stormwater system.
According to the city, the metal covers are located along curbs and sidewalks and allow city staff to perform repairs and maintenance on the stormwater system.
City officials said more than 30 of the covers have disappeared this month.
When a cover is removed, it leaves behind a large open hole that can create a safety hazard for the public, according to the city.
The city said the covers are expensive to replace and are urging people not to take them.
