City requests court to release audio of hate-filled conversations among officers

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington filed a request that the New Hanover County Superior Court review a law enforcement recording and determine whether it should be released to the public.

The recording has two conversations between former Wilmington police officers Michael Piner, Jesse Moore and James Gilmore.

WPD Chief Donny Williams says the trio were caught on camera using racial slurs, offensive comments, or threats of violence.

The written portions were released last week, but no video or audio has been approved for release yet.

The court will set a hearing date to consider the request.
