WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — WWAY’s Cicily Hammers and Ryan Wiener visited “The Backrooms,” a haunted house experience at UNCW’s Cultural Arts Center.

The experience is free to attend, but donations are being accepted. Proceeds support the creative process behind the event and Theatre For All, a Wilmington-based nonprofit.

Theatre For All uses the performing arts to empower people with disabilities, build community connections and challenge stereotypes. Its programs include theater productions, dance, choir and educational outreach.

Co-founder Kim Henry said events like “The Backrooms” help advance the organization’s mission.

“Our mission statement is three-prong. We want to empower people with disabilities. We want to overturn stereotypes that people may not even know they have about people with disabilities. An event like this touches all of the important aspects of what we’re doing,” Henry said.
