Columbus Co. man charged with sex crimes involving two children


COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County man is behind bars after sexually assaulting two 10-year-old children, according to the sheriff’s office.

Travis Walker Houston was arrested Saturday. He was charged with two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, two counts felony statutory sex offense with child by adult, and felony first degree forcible rape.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says the incidents happened on Summersett Ext Road in Whiteville.

CCSO states the first child was sexually assaulted from July 1-Oct 8. The other 10 year old was assaulted from June 9, 2018 through Sept. 8, 2018.

Houston was 26 years old at the time of the offenses, CCSO says.

According to warrants about the first child, Houston “did commit and attempt to commit a lewd and lascivious act upon the body of a 10 year old child. Houston did engage in a sex act with a 10 year old child.”

In regards to the second child, the warrant states, “Houston did ravish and carnally know a 10 year old child by force and against the victim’s will. Houston did engage in a sex act with a 10 year old child. Houston did commit and attempt to commit a lewd and lascivious act upon the body of a 10 year old child.”

He is being held in jail on a $200,000 secured bond.
