Comedy, arts, crafts and more on tap for the weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – There are lots of cool things taking place this weekend across Wilmington.

If you enjoy watching live comedy acts, head over to the 11th Annual Port City’s Top Comic at Dead Crow. The Comedy Club is located at 265 N. Front Street in Wilmington.

“There’s a great comedy scene here in Wilmington with all kinds of comics from amateur on up that come in from all over to compete for the title,” said John Staton, Features Reporter with the StarNews.

More than 130 artists and craft vendors will showcase their wares at the 28th Annual Oak Island Guild Arts and Craft Festival.

“This is the biggest they’ve ever had,” and Staton added, “They will have everything from paintings and stained glass, to woodworking and metal work.”

If you prefer an evening at the theatre, you’ve got lots of options.

“Violet” will be performed at Thalian Hall and it is about a young woman with a disfiguring scar on her face and she travels from North Carolina to Oklahoma to meet with a televangelist who she thinks can heal her scar.

The play “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” will be performed at North Front Theatre, and it will be the last weekend for the dinner theater show “Memories, Molasses and More” at Theatre Now.

If you follow Wilmington bands, there are two album release shows featuring Tumbleweed at Waterline Brewing and Wax Imperials at Bourgie Nights.

Finally, UNCW will feature an interesting art show called Intergalactic Soul at the University’s Upperman Center. The exhibit combines science fiction and social awareness together.

“It combines a cartoony, pop-art movie posters but then the themes are about violence against young black men and serious stuff like that,” Staton said.
