Communities in Schools after-school program hoping to increase enrollment
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – The Communities in Schools before and after-school program in Brunswick County is still operating, despite a low number at two schools.
As of Tuesday, Southport had the full-time equivalent of 17 students using the program. CIS says they need 20 to be financially viable.
Town Creek had 3, while Belville had 6.
CIS says they are giving it time to try and get 20 students into the program, but right now, they do not have a plan to do anything differently.
CIS originally cancelled the after-school programs, which led to a public outcry and caused CIS to reverse their decision.
