Community gives input on Portia Hines Park plans
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Thursday, members of the community got a chance to voice their opinions about long-awaited improvements to Portia Mills Hines Park in Wilmington
On October 1, City Council approved $725,300 for design and construction of improvements to the 2.78 acre park.
Potential designs shown at Thursday night’s meeting include restrooms, additional lighting, a walking trail, and a parking lot.
High school student Sai-meya Williams, who petitioned City Council for improvements, says she’s excited about what the project will mean for the community.
“At the park, I want to see a lot of changes, more kids, more events happening at the park, which if we had lights, bathrooms, and water, there would be more gathering in the community, and more events happening,” Williams said.
A final design will be presented to the public early next year, and construction is expected to be complete winter of 2021.
