Community joins together to restore school

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Students traded books and pencils for paintbrushes at College Park Elementary School this weekend. Volunteers, staff, and even kids joined together for Painting at the Park, an event dedicated to restoring the school.

The community says investing a little time and a little money now will make kids more successful later.

“It’s an older school. It was built back in the 60’s, so it does have a lot of maintenance needs,” said College Park Assistant Principal David Greenwood. “We feel that we work here and have kids that go here. We live in the community and we should take care of it and make sure it is here for a long time.”

The school plans on hosting another Painting at the Park day in February. Volunteers say if the weather is nice, they will focus on outdoor maintenance.
