Council approves $10K for new lighting around Kenan Memorial Fountain

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Council members also came up with a safety plan for the Kenan Memorial Fountain.

The council approved $10,000 for lighting to be installed around the structure. Several accidents have damaged the 90-year-old fountain at Market and Fifth Streets.

Councilman Kevin O’Grady said, “If we don’t see that the conditions improve, then we’ll have to consider other changes down there.”

If the new lighting doesn’t help, the council could consider installing signage, raising the pavement or relocating the fountain. It has been shut off since a car slammed into it in August.
