County changes name of Hugh MacRae Park
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hugh MacRae Park in Wilmington will get a new name. This comes after the New Hanover County Commissioners voted to change the name of the popular park Monday.
The new name is Long Leaf Park.
Commissioner Jonathan Barfield proposed the name change and it passed 3-2.
Commissioner Woody White and Vice-Chair Pat Kusek didn’t support the name change, believing more time and discussion was needed.
The park is named after Hugh MacRae who played a significant part in the 1898 Massacre.
Commissioners didn’t specify when the name change will take effect.
