Couple accused of insurance fraud

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Deputies say a Wilmington couple tried to collect more than $63,000 in insurance fraud.

Deputies said Richard Dwaine Warren, Jr., 30, and Miriam Warren, 27, conspired to defraud State Farm Insurance Company and Traveler’s Insurance Company with fraudulent claims for a September 2013 vehicle fire, motor vehicle accidents in September 2010 and June 2010, and stolen property from a residential break-in at the couple’s apartment in January 2010. The couple tried to collect more than $63,000 in funds, deputies said.

Richard Warren was arrested November 25 and is facing charges of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense; Michelle Warren was served with warrants on November 24 and November 26 and is facing similar charges.

According to a news release by the North Carolina Department of Insurance, an estimated 10 cents of every dollar paid in premiums goes toward the payment of fraudulent claims.
