Couple charged with stealing car, plate

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man and woman are in jail after Wilmington Police say they stole a car and license plate.

Officers responded to 2112 Metts Ave for a call about suspicious activity, specifically people putting a license plate on a red Pontiac Grand Am. When officers got there, they talked to Amber Fox, 21, and Derek Griffin, 24, who police say were removing a Quebec license plate off the Pontiac and replacing it with a North Carolina plate.

Officers found out the NC plate and the red Pontiac had just been stolen. They say the Pontiac was stolen from the Budget Inn on Market St. The license plate was stolen off a vehicle on Borden Street.

Fox is in the New Hanover County Jail under $15,000 bond. She’s charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a stolen vehicle. Griffin is in jail under $50,000 bond. He is charged with larceny, possession of stolen property, no drivers license, tampering with a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and larceny of a motor vehicle.
