Crews search for missing swimmer at Carolina Beach

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Crews in Carolina Beach are searching for a swimmer who went missing earlier today.

According to a news release from the Carolina Beach Police Department, police and the Carolina Beach Fire Department responded to the beach strand at Harper Ave. for a call about a swimmer in distress. The swimmer is still missing, police say. He is described as a 21-year-old male, 5’10”, 160 lbs. He was last seen wearing red, white and blue swim trunks.

County fire crews and the US Coast Guard responded to help with the search.

Police say emergency workers will continue to search for the swimmer throughout the evening.
