Cucalorus Film Foundation gets $25,000 grant to support annual festival

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cucalorus Film Foundation was recently approved for the  Art Projects award, a $25,000 grant.

The money will support the Cucalorus Film Festival. This project will give direct financial help to more than 75 independent filmmakers who work will be screened at the annual film festival in Wilmington.

The grant comes from the National Endowment for the Arts.

“We’re so honored to be recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts as a leader in
showcasing media makers and creating original programs where the general public can
experience the work of visionary filmmakers. This funding is a catalyst for further investment
and helps us to build a sustainable economic environment for indie filmmakers,” Cucalorus Executive Director Dan Brawley wrote in a news release.

Cucalorus Film Festival is among 1,073 projects across America totaling nearly $25
million that were selected during this first round of fiscal year 2021 funding in the Grants for
Arts Projects funding category.
