Custom costumes for kids in wheelchairs revealed at parade

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Custom costumes made to for children with special needs were revealed at their school’s Halloween parade Thursday.

A company, 101 Mobility, spends countless hours making large, custom costumes that are often built around a child’s wheelchair. This year, the costumes ranged from a fighter pilot to an ice queen.

For the parade, the rest of the school’s students and staff at Codington Elementary School cheer on these students in their holiday ensembles. One mother whose daughter has been working with 101 Mobility says the event gets better and better each year.

“And every year it brings tears to my eyes to see her and how happy all the kids are when they’re putting on the parade and the whole school is out cheering for them,” Lequanna Higgins said.
