Cutter Diligence crew rescues 20 in Florida Straits

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington-based Coast Guard Cutter Diligence is headed back to the Port City this weekend following a mission that resulted in the rescue of 20 migrants.

According to a news release, the cutter was in the Florida Straits in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry and Operation Blue Hammer. The crew helped rescue 20 migrants from three “unseaworthy vessels,” the release said. The Diligence also helped coordinate the rescue of 220 migrants from 16 other boats and vessels.

The Diligence will be back in the Port City Saturday around 2:30 p.m.
