Cyclist hit and killed on US 17 in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A cyclist was hit and killed on US 17 in Brunswick County over the weekend.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says the incident happened around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday near Shallotte.

A cyclist was riding southbound on US 17 Business near Frontage Road when a white BMW hit the person from behind and reportedly took off.

The cyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway Patrol says the driver was later arrested.

Tabitha Ann Reaves, 21, is in the Brunswick County jail for felony hit-and-run causing serious injuries or death.

However, we are working to find out if she’s connection in this case.

She’s being held under a $50,000 secured bond.
