DA seeking death penalty in witness-killing trial

DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The district attorney in Duplin County said he is seeking death in the trial of a man accused of killing a witness set to testify in another murder trial.

District Attorney Ernie Lee said last week the case against Nashid Porter was declared a capital case, meaning they could seek the death penalty. Porter is accused of killing Obediah Hester. Hester was set to testify against Porter in  New Hanover County murder case from 2012.

Prosecutors said Porter lured Hester to Duplin County to kill him. He has yet to go to trial for the 2012 case.
