DANCE PARTY: Bitty & Beau’s celebrates World Down Syndrome Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today is World Down Syndrome Day and Wilmington’s Bitty and Beau’s Coffee celebrated with of course a dance party!

The shop hires people with development and intellectual disabilities.

Dozens of friends, family members and customers were on hand.

Employees had their names announced to the crowd and had some fun dancing to music.

There were also some special surprises!

A signed guitar from Luke Bryan was presented to the coffee shop and Bitty and Beau’s provided little aprons for the children who had come out to join in the fun.

“I think it’s just a great opportunity to put people with down syndrome in the spotlight and say look how incredible they are, and how they’ve enriched our lives and opened that world to people who have never spent time with someone with down syndrome,” Bitty & Beau’s Coffee Shop founder Amy Wright said.

Wright was named the 2017 CNN Hero of the Year for her efforts as an advocate for people with disabilities.

Bitty & Beau’s opened in Wilmington in January 2016.
