DAV Wilmington, American Red Cross to host pre-holiday blood drive

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — DAV Chapter 11 in Wilmington is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive ahead of the Independence Day holiday, a period when blood supplies often face increased demand.

The blood drive is scheduled for Thursday, July 2nd, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at DAV Chapter 11, 4601 Park Ave. in Wilmington.

Organizers say blood donations are needed year-round to help meet the needs of patients requiring lifesaving transfusions. The event is intended to encourage community members to donate blood while recognizing the service of military veterans.

The American Red Cross recommends that donors schedule appointments in advance. Appointments can be made through the Red Cross blood donation website using the sponsor code 28403.

According to the Red Cross, blood donations are especially important around holiday weekends, when donations can decline while hospitals continue to need blood products for patients.
