Death toll at 4 from shooting in central Tel Aviv
JERUSALEM (AP) – Israeli authorities say the death toll has risen to four from an attack by two Palestinian gunmen near a popular open-air market in central Tel Aviv.
At least five others were wounded. A police commander says the victims were civilians.
Channel 10 TV aired closed-circuit video from inside a restaurant showing two men in suits shooting at diners as they run away from their tables. One of the attackers shoots a man on the ground and waves a knife before running out.
The Sarona market is one of Tel Aviv’s most popular tourist spots. It is across the street from the military’s headquarters and is often filled with young people in uniform.
Police say the gunmen, who were captured, are members of the same family from a Palestinian village near the West Bank town of Hebron. The area has been a flashpoint for violence in recent months.
