FIRST ON 3: Deputy’s vehicle hit during traffic stop in Brunswick Co.
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says two people are charged after a driver hit a deputy’s car during a traffic stop overnight.
A Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said a deputy had a vehicle stopped on US 74 East in Brunswick County between Wilmington and the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge when another driver hit the deputy’s vehicle.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol reports David Piatkowski, 27, of Wilmington struck the deputy’s car around 2:44 a.m. He is charged with driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle. NCSHP says he was accompanied by another adult, who was not charged. Piatkowski was transported to Brunswick County Sheriff’s office following the incident.
According to arrest warrants, Omar Ramien Wade, 42, was the driver of the vehicle being stopped and is charged with reckless driving and driving while impaired.
NCSHP said no one was hurt, but Piatkowski’s vehicle and the deputy’s car were damaged.
