Dispatchers: Woods fire off Highway 211 now contained

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County dispatchers said a fire that started Tuesday, burning thousands of acres of woods, has been contained.

Officials continue to look into what caused the flames off Highway 211 that caused power outages and shut down roads as crews worked to put the fire out.

Dispatchers said forestry crews are still monitoring the area for hot spots, but that firefighters have cleared the scene. NC Forest Service Officer Chris Meggs said crews will be on scene for the next two to three days for clean up. He added that other than damage to timber, two unoccupied hunting cabins were destroyed in the fire.

Meggs said there the cause has not been determined and the fire is still under investigation.
