Dog killed in Wilmington apartment fire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A dog is dead following a fire at a Wilmington apartment complex.
A Wilmington Fire Department spokeswoman said crews responded around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon to the building located at 718 South 5th Avenue.
Firefighters helped two residents out of the building.
One dog was also pulled out. Crews attempted rescue efforts on the dog, but it ultimately died. There were no other injuries.
The fire department said the fire was brought under control quickly and extinguished.
Officials said there was one unit with fire damage. The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents.
WFD said the fire was ruled accidental and was electrical in nature.
