Downed power line caused Calabash outage affecting 24,000 BEMC members

CALABASH, NC (WWAY) — A downed power line on Old Georgetown Road caused a large power outage Wednesday afternoon, according to Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation.
BEMC said the outage affected approximately 24,000 members in the Calabash area.
Witnesses reported that a dump truck may have caused the damage while traveling with its bed raised. However, BEMC said it has not been able to independently confirm that the truck was responsible.
Crews responded quickly to the outage and restored power in approximately 30 minutes, according to the utility.
BEMC thanked members for their patience as crews worked to identify the cause of the outage and restore service.
