Dr. Terri Cobb named Pender County Schools Superintendent

BURGAW, NC (WWAY)– A special meeting was held Tuesday night in Burgaw to name the new superintendent for Pender County Schools. Dr. Terri R. Cobb was voted in by the Pender County Board of Education.

“I really look forward to focusing on success for every child in the district and bringing in the community and working alongside the staff to do what is best for every child,” said Cobb.

Cobb has spent the last five years as Chief of Staff for Wake County Public Schools. In her time there she had to deal with issues such as racism and busing. She says that has better prepared her for anything that lies ahead in Pender County.

“I look forward very much to working with the board here and staff on the issues that we have here in Pender County,” said Cobb. “The individuals that I’ve met tonight have been absolutely wonderful. There is a lot of wonderful things happening here in Pender County and to be a part of that is just very exciting to me.”

The Pender County Board of Education says Cobb stood out among the 28 applicants. They say her extensive background in education was the difference maker.

“She comes from a large, very diverse school district,” said board member Tom Roper. “She’s had a lot of hands on at a local level and we just think she’s a great fit for Pender County.”

Cobb will start her new position on January 2nd, but until that time plans to visit schools in Pender County and spend more time with the board getting to better know her new district.

She will be paid $135,000 annually as part of a three and a half year contract.
