Chamber to lead regional effort to promote region during Wells Fargo Championship

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear is getting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Eagle Point Golf Club in New Hanover County will host the Wells Fargo Golf Championship in 2017. That means all eyes will be on the greater Wilmington area. This will give the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce a chance to show off not only New Hanover County, but Brunswick and Pender Counties as well.

In August, the board of directors of the Wilmington Chamber approved $100,000 to help in this effort forming a regional economic cooperative group to market and promote the Cape Fear to potential investors and businesses ahead of the tournament.

“So the ultimate goal is to market the region. To tell the world that in addition to being a great beach spot, we are also a great place as far as jobs with the port and everything we have to offer here,” Dick Blouse, Interim President & CEO of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, said.

Blouse hopes to have everything up and running marketing wise by the new year. The Wells Fargo Golf Championship is scheduled for May.
