East Bladen football defeats West Columbus, 30-14

CERRO GORDO, N.C. (WWAY) — East Bladen picked up a 30-14 football win over West Columbus on Friday night. The Eagles got on the board first when Jordan Consola brought down West Columbus quarterback DJ Graham in the end zone for a safety, giving East Bladen a 2-0 lead.

East Bladen added to its advantage when Jayden Lewis scored on the ground. A successful two-point conversion made it 10-0 before another Eagles touchdown extended the lead to 16-0.

West Columbus responded behind Graham, who ran for a touchdown before connecting with Xavier Savage on the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 16-8.

Before halftime, West Columbus’ Zaylon Freeman came up with an interception and nearly returned it for a touchdown.

East Bladen carried a 24-8 lead into the second half before Lewis found the end zone again, extending the Eagles’ advantage to 30-8.

West Columbus continued to battle. Graham connected with Markis Willis for a 43-yard completion, setting up another scoring opportunity. Graham then ran 27 yards for his second rushing touchdown of the night.

East Bladen held on from there to secure the 30-14 victory.
