Echo Farms apartment project moves forward
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The planned Echo Farms apartment development moves forward. Wilmington’s Subdivision Review Board voted to allow developers build the apartments a farther distance from a public street than the city allows.
People who live in the area are worried about there only being one entrance into the development which would be on Echo Farms Boulevard. They are concerned about traffic and safety.
John Hirchak lives in the Echo Farms community and he said he doesn’t want more traffic on Echo Farms Boulevard.
“We are not against this development, I want to make that clear, it’s their land they can develop on it,” said Hirchak. “What we are asking is that it be developed in a manner that considered public safety, and the safety of our neighborhood.”
Residents said they want to see an entrance on Carolina Beach Road. But according to an email sent by the DOT, the State is not allowing an access be built on Carolina Beach Road because the plan allows for adequate access to public roads already.
Community members plan to appeal the board’s decision.
The people behind the project and board members declined to talk to us.
